Indian Villages

Late last year I started work on making some V&B BUAs for use as Indian settlements. The plan is to use them for both French and Indian War, and AWI, wargames. The first, and most complete, is a large resin lodge from the BUM Huron set. I have added in a skin drying frame from the Imex Friendly Eastern Indians set to add detail to the piece.(click here for PSR's review of the set)

Still needs something more...
My plan so far is to mount Indian forces on the 1.5 inch square V&B skirmish stands, letting each large village/town template take four stands.

Of course each BUA can still take two line stands.

BUA with garrison and removable insert.
I also decided to use the huts from the Imex Eastern Indian set to make another BUA, and as a result decided to use some resin native grass huts that I had purchased years ago for another project to make up another two.

The Imex huts.
I believe the resin huts were originally intended for use as African huts for 19th century colonial gaming, but they seem to be passable as Indian dwellings. Of course feel free to tell me if you think they are hopelessly wrong.

The resin huts.
I am still settling into the new job and into Palmerston North, but so far both seem quite nice with plenty of positives. Next week only has three working days - of which all three are training days, so I have plenty to keep myself busy!

  1. They look nice. I quite like the look of the different shades of skins on the huts.
I'm glad your transition is going well.

    1. Thanks Ben!
I alternated four different colours and gave it a brown wash. I think it turned out ok, but I hope it will look better once I finish basing it.

  3. Love V&B and love what you're done here. Really nice idea and looks excellent.

Hope to see some V&B action soon with those nice figures.

    1. Thanks D.d.G.!

V&B is a great system - I have been toying with the idea of adapting it for Ancients since I like the look of the massed figures on the stands.

I hope to get some AARs up here soon too....

  4. Great to see you're settling in good-o, Brian. Palmerston North ain't the most fascinating place in New Zealand (though I quite like the region between there and Whanganui, myself: you can see a long way). But there used to be a really good (and large) bookshop there 30 years ago. Wonder if it is still there?

Oh, yeah: I like the Native North American village idea. They'd come in handy for rule sets other than V&B as well.

    1. Thanks Ion!
I've been pretty busy zooming around for work of late, but I have managed to obtain a few new toys!

I haven't checked out the second hand book shops yet, as I am planning on doing that when Kat comes up this week!

    1. Hi Paul,
Thanks for the kind words and the advice about Mr Models. I also found another place on Main St that sells diecasts, so I grabbed a couple while I was there.

Aaron may be heading over to the coast soon so he might be able to grab the gear off you then.
